The biggest football transfer news in 2014 is Juan Mata’s signing with Manchester united for 37.1million ounds (44.4590532 million Euros).
Juan Mata’s transfer from Chelsea to Manchester United wasn’t such a surprise. Mata was clearly unsatisfied at FC Chelsea and wanted to have a new challenge. As we all know, Mata is only 25 years old and has had an interesting past. He started his youth career at Real Oviedo (1998-2003) and Real Madrid (2003-2007), transferred to Valencia in 2007, transferred to Chelsea in 2011 and from Chelsea to Manchester United in 2014. Mata made 82 appearances and scored 18 goals for FC Chelsea, which isn’t too bad for attacking midfielder.
Public is still concerned that his transfer to Manchester United was a step back. Clearly Manchester United is in a crisis. Last year’s Premier League winners aren’t even in top 5 this year. Some changes are crucial, but we doubt that Mata’s transfer will help to resolve this situation. Desperate measures are to be taken soon. The club stated that spending 44 million on Mata was a step toward proving the fans that Manchester United means business. Well Mata has made only 4 appearances so far and didn’t really prove us that he is the savior. Fans still aren’t convinced that Mata is good for the club- mostly because he plays the same position as Rooney and is considered to be too slow for Manchester’s style of play. Manchester clearly needs some fresh blood, but transfers like this aren’t the way to go. Maybe Mata still has some tricks up his sleeve and he’ll surprise us.
